Mateo's Magic Bus Live in the KFFR Studio with Eric Foss & Secret Stash Records

After seven years of hosting Mateo's Magic Bus most weeks on the amazing community radio station in Winter Park, CO - KFFR 88.3 FM & KFFR.org - I now have hundreds of 2-hour playlists in the rearview mirror with a growing focus to feature new music on at least 1/2 of each show.

I like to tell folks that there is more amazing music out there than probably ever, the volume is incredible but it takes some time to find and you have to develop the tools to help you do that (i.e. with 7 years of my playlists stored in iTunes, their algorithms do a great job of pointing me to new offerings that fit my jam).

Some great examples and one thing I love are the amazing, smaller, specialized labels like Colemine Records in Loveland, Ohio, and Secret Stash Records based in Minneapolis. I recently had the pleasure of hosting the founder and head of Secret Stash, Eric Foss (who plays his own music as Cy Pierpont), in KFFR's studios - it was our second interview in the past year & the first one live at the board together.

Eric is an American drummer, entrepreneur, and songwriter from Minneapolis (with great family ties to Grand County, CO), is the proprietor of Secret Stash Records, and co-founded the band Sonny Knight And The Lakers. He co-produces all of the new recordings the label puts out and plays drums on most of them. Additionally, he is the executive producer of all the label's reissues and has contributed liner notes and graphic design to many of his projects.

Eric holds a special place as both a noted musician and as a producer of incredible soul music and sounds as the leader of Secret Stash Records. In our interview (click on the SoundCloud chevron just to the left or here to listen), we cover and play some of the new Secret Stash offerings including Mina Moore's new album (amazing!), as well as reissues including The Vondells and then segue to some of Eric's recent albums including Pierpont & Helgelson's Of Time and the Hi-Bridge Band's Mr. Lucky.

We cover the history of Secret Stash, Eric's earlier years founding, playing, and producing Sonny Night and Lakers all the way up to his latest albums and what's next. They've just issued some incredible new artists as well on Secret Stash - it's a great interview, enjoy and we look forward to having Eric back to KFFR on a regular basis as well as continuing to play on KFFR all the great things coming out of Secret Stash!

Rock on,

DJ Mateo
