B.B. Live, Marvin Pontiac, Blues + Soul - Mateo's Magic Bus on 88.5 KFFR-FM October 19 - #178

Mateo’s Magic Bus takes listeners on a journey around the world most weeks, exploring the roots of jazz and blues alongside music from today and the past decades that has been influenced by these incredible art forms.

In this week's show the Bus starts off in Chicago, circa 1965 with one of the greatest live albums from any genre, B.B. King Live at the Regal, featuring The King at the top of his game. Then we travel to and through the character created by John Lurie, Marvin Pontiac. From Wikipedia, "In 1999 Lurie released the album The Legendary Marvin Pontiac: Greatest Hits, a posthumous collection of the work of an African-Jewish musician named Marvin Pontiac, a fictional character Lurie created." Amazing story, music and love these tracks!

Also in this week's show, new Bus riders include the the obscure but great King Bees with some great blues & soul mixed with roots of punk, then we move to new Neil Young, classic live recording from Sting's living room of the jazz standard, My One and Only Love from Leaving Las Vegas, we stay parked in the U.K. for a great Beth Orton tune and then down to South Africa for 1969 Heshoo Beshoo's Armitage Road. Too much great music from this show to list, check it!!
