KFFR Interview with Erik Deutsch: About his new album, touring again and Colorado roots

Updated: Mar 31, 2022

Well, sometimes fate drops its little gems into your life - Amy and I were in a La Marais coffee shop (please go when you are there - link to Fringe Coffee) one morning last November, warming up over a few yummy flat whites. In walked a young gent, trailed by an adorable puppy. We couldn't resist striking up convo, a musician, deep roots in Colorado, jazz, crossover to everything. After a wonderful conversation, he noted he'll be playing at Dazzle Denver (link to the show) in just a few weeks. Of course we went to the show, it was amazing.

Erik is an American pianist, keyboardist, producer, composer, arranger, bandleader, and educator. He leads his own band Outlaw Jazz and was a founding member of Fat Mama. He is also known for his work with Charlie Hunter, Leftover Salmon, the Chicks (Dixie Chicks), Shooter Jennings, and Citizen Cope. Erik is perfect fit for Mateo’s Magic Bus, as he's rooted in jazz but crossing over into other forms including rock and country and much more.

Erik was in the studio a few weeks ago, we spoke about his deep roots in Colorado, degree from CU Boulder, his new album La Nuit Blanche, his creative process, dealing with COVID as an artist. Amazing how fast 20 mins passes! Give it a listen and make sure you stop by Bandcamp to pick up his new album, La Nuit Blanche.
