Mateo's Magic Bus - RIP Robbie, Harry Smith Anthology and new Jon Batiste on KFFR 88.3FM (#198)

Broadcast high in the Rockies each week from 2PM - 4PM MT on KFFR 88.3-FM and KFFR.org, Mateo’s Magic Bus takes listeners on a journey around the world, exploring the roots of jazz and blues alongside music from today and the past decades that has been influenced by these incredible art forms.

On this week's ride, DJ Mateo pays homage to the late, great Robbie Robertson, whose contributions to modern music are stunning. His writing and playing on Music From The Big Pink helped bring forward so many elements of Americana, influencing bands from Pink Floyd, to Wilco, Eric Clapton (who quit Cream after hearing the album), and countless others still to this day.

In the same vein, we dip back to Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music and the amazing live interpretations from the Harry Smith Project, from Elvis Costello to Beck, Beth Orton, Lou Reed, and so many more - we'll keep diving into that well in the coming months and years.

Our current bastion of all forms of music and fusion, Jon Batiste, has a new album out, World Music Radio, we play a cut from there and dive deep into Robbie's self titled album from 1987 (amazing!) and The Last Waltz, wildly held as the greatest live album and movie of all time.

Click on the Soundcloud chevron just above to listen in and also here for a track listing on Spinitron. It's nonstop fun on this episode of Mateo's Magic Bus, buckle up for a great ride!

Rock on,

DJ Mateo
