Broadcast high in the Rockies each week from 2PM - 4PM MT on KFFR 88.3-FM and KFFR.org, Mateo’s Magic Bus takes listeners on a journey around the world, exploring the roots of jazz and blues alongside music from today and the past decades that has been influenced by these incredible art forms.
On this week's ride, the Bus pays homage to the late, great Anthony Dominick Benedetto, aka Tony Bennett. Tony holds a special place in our hearts and we've been featuring his amazing celebration of the Great American Songbook since we started our first Bus tour in 2019. We dial it back to 1984 and celebrate one of the great crossover albums, Cafe Bleu, by the amazing Paul Weller (aka the Modfather) and his great comrades in arms at the time melding jazz, funk, synth and the sounds of times into one of the great albums ever recorded.
We lead the show of with a selection from Tony's epic duet with Bill Evans, followed by one of DJ Mateo's favorite tracks of all time, Ray Charles 1959 rendition of Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'. We've also got new Wilco and newly released Nina Samone live in 1965 plus classic Soulive, Joe Pass and M Ward with Lucinda.
